Springbank made 15 hogsheads (barrels) out of the 11 tonnes of organic barley that John had specially delivered to the distillery.
Of these 15 hogsheads eight were used in the first bottling in 1999. The remaining hogsheads are now highly sought after by collectors.
In 2008, John applied for a distiller’s license to run a 350 litre, state-of-the-art copper pot-still. At the time the regulations stated that the smallest pot-still for which a license could be granted could be 1800 litres.
